Maskless JetBlue passenger faces $14,500 fine.

A JetBlue passenger could wind up paying $14,500 for refusing to wear a face mask and drinking alcohol that he had brought on board on a flight from New York to the Dominican Republic in December.

Shortly after take-off, the unnamed man allegedly spoke loudly and refused to wear his face mask while drinking his own alcohol, which is prohibited by federal regulation.

Flight attendants reminded the man of the rules but were ignored resulting in the captain turning the flight back to JFK.

He was subsequently arrested upon landing.

The man has since received a $14,500 fine and has 30 days to respond to the enforcements made against him, the FAA said.

The FAA press release stated: “A flight attendant issued the passenger a ‘Notice to Cease Illegal and Objectionable Behavior, and the cabin crew notified the captain about his actions two separate times. As a result of the passenger’s actions, the captain declared an emergency and returned to JFK, where the plane landed 4,000 pounds overweight due to the amount of fuel on board.”
