Jetstar passenger crawls off plane after allegedly being asked to pay for wheelchair | Secret Flying

Disabled woman crawls off plane at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.

A Queensland woman has vowed she will never fly with Jetstar again after she was forced to crawl off the plane because airline and airport staff reportedly refused to let her use an aisle wheelchair for free.

Natalie Curtis, who has been in a wheelchair since high school, said she had never been so humiliated in her life.

Curtis said she was offered a standard “aisle” wheelchair to board her flight from Singapore to Bangkok but when she landed was told she would have to pay to use another chair to get off the plane.

She said she refused the service because it is normally free, according to local Australian news outlet, 7NEWS Townsville.

In a Facebook post, Curtis said: “I refused to pay as I have never had to do that in the past so I had to crawl to my wheelchair. I have never felt so degraded in my life.”

Curtis admitted there was a language barrier between her and the Thai airline staff and she couldn’t comprehend why they had to ask her to pay for the wheelchair.

“They all just sat around for a while and the option that was left was for me to get on the floor and crawl,” Curtis said.

She explained the only option left was to crawl on the floor for eight rows until she could reach her own wheelchair at the plane doors.

A Jetstar spokesperson told FOX Business that it is “looking into what happened as a matter of urgency.”

“We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable travel experience for all our customers, including those requiring specific assistance,” the spokesperson said.

“Regrettably, this was not the case for Ms. Curtis following a miscommunication that resulted in the delay of an aisle chair being made available at the gate on arrival.”

The carrier also said it reached out to Curtis to offer her a refund “as well as additional compensation.”
