Passengers were left disgusted after a young child had his pants changed on an empty aisle seat.

A family travelling on Jetstar have been slammed by passengers after they used the plane seat as a changing table for their child’s dirty underwear.

Passengers described flight JQ284 from Dunedin to Auckland last Friday as the “flight light from hell.”

According to reports, the grandmother allowed the boy, estimated to be 4-years-old, to urinate into a bottle, before leaving the wipes in the plane seat pocket.

One passenger who witnessed the incident said: “Flight attendants told the family they couldn’t use the seat as a changing table and that there was one in the toilet, but the family continued to ignore them.

“A few people made comments to them, but most people were too uncomfortable to say anything.”

Many passengers complained to the airline, asking for some type of compensation.

However, the carrier reportedly refused, saying it does not issue refunds for “things like that”.

A Jetstar spokesman said the airline was sorry to hear customers had been unhappy with their experience.

“For hygiene reasons and the comfort of all our customers we encourage families travelling with infants and young children to use the change table facilities in our toilets on board our A320 aircraft to change nappies,” he said in a statement.
