A flight bound for Tokyo made a U-turn back to Los Angeles four hours into the flight after an “unauthorised person” was discovered on board.

On Tuesday, an All Nippon Airways flight from Tokyo to Los Angeles turned back more than four hours into the flight after the discovery of an “unauthorised person” among the 226 passengers on board.

Somehow, the “rogue” passenger managed to proceed from the check-in desk to the departure gate at LAX and successfully board the wrong plane.

The American model, Chrissy Teigen, who was on the flight with her husband John Legend, live-tweeted the events.

Frustratingly, the passengers spent a total of eight hours in the air only to return to the same airport.

All Nippon Airways issued a statement early Wednesday apologising for the inconvenience.

It read: “During the flight, the cabin crew became aware that one of the passengers boarded the incorrect flight and notified the pilot. As part of the airline’s security procedure, the pilot in command decided to return to the originating airport, where the passenger was disembarked.

“We take great pride providing exemplary customer service, and on this flight we failed to do so.”
