Passengers on Etihad Airways flights from Abu Dhabi to the US are now exempt from the electronic devices ban introduced in March.
Etihad Airways have announced on their website that passengers flying from Abu Dhabi to the US will now be able to carry all electronic devices on board thanks to the new US Immigration and security facility at Abu Dhabi Airport.
The facility allows you to clear US immigration and customs formalities before you fly to the US, meaning you can now take all your electronic devices safely on board with you.
Additionally, Etihad passengers will arrive in the US like a domestic passenger with no need to go through immigration again. Luggage will arrive at your final destination without needing to re-check it for an onward US journey.
The airline operates 45 flights per week from Abu Dhabi to six US airports.
In March, the US banned passengers from carrying electronic devices larger than a smartphone on non-stop flights to the US from the ten airports across eight countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
The original nine airlines affected by the US electronics ban were:
- Qatar Airways
- Emirates
- Etihad Airways
- Royal Jordanian
- Egypt Air
- Turkish Airlines
- Saudi Arabian Airlines
- Kuwait Airways
- Royal Air Maroc
Last month, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said he was considering banning large electronic devices from the passenger cabins of all international flights to and from the US.
Etihad Airways said in a statement: “We welcome the decision by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to lift the electronic devices ban on flights between Abu Dhabi and the United States, following the successful validation of security measures at the U.S. Preclearance facility at Abu Dhabi airport.”
