A man found with $140k in cash walked away from the money after he was questioned by police.
An unnamed man was caught with $138,980 in cash at Boston’s Logan Airport while trying to board a flight to a destination known as a “source area for illegal narcotics.”
Massachusetts State Police say the man missed his first flight, then booked himself on another flight for the same day.
When going through the security checkpoint at the airport, the attempted smuggler told TSA officers that he was only carrying $1,500.
When questioned by troopers, he changed that number to between $40,000 and $50,000.
Following further questioning by detectives, the man said the amount was $80,000 to $85,000.
Police decided to search the man where they found the total amount of cash to be $138,980.
The man reportedly refused to disclose where the money had come from and who he was delivering it to.
According to reports, he refused to sign a receipt for the cash and exited the airport, leaving the money behind.
The cash has now been officially forfeited.
