Man attempts to breach cockpit before jumping out.

A passenger was taken to the hospital Friday evening after jumping out of a moving plane at Los Angeles International Airport.

United Express flight 5365, operated by SkyWest, was taxiing from a gate area in preparation for take-off when the man opened the door of the aircraft, activated the emergency slide, and exited.

According to reports, an altercation occurred on board the Embraer 175 regional jet shortly before the passenger left the aircraft as he unsuccessfully tried to breach the cockpit.

The plane, which was headed to Salt Lake City, returned to the gate before all passengers were asked to deplane.

The FBI are investigating the incident and working to determine the passenger’s motive, officials said.

The incident was the second disruption at LAX in two days. On Thursday, a driver broke through a chain-link fence at a FedEx cargo facility and went onto the airfield, crossing runways as police gave chase.

The driver was detained and no injuries were reported. Two runways were briefly closed.
