Royal Air Maroc plans 30 flights to carry fans to semi-final.
Morocco’s national airline is laying on 30 extra return flights to jet euphoric fans to Qatar for Wednesday’s historic World Cup semi-final against France.
In a statement on Monday, the carrier said: “In order to allow the many Moroccans wanting to support the national team at its peak and experience the emotion of the World Cup semi-final, Royal Air Maroc has set up an air bridge between Casablanca and Doha.”
The flights will depart on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Morocco beat Portugal 1-0 on Saturday, becoming the first African team to qualify for a World Cup semi-final, sparking celebrations across Africa and the Arab world.
Royal Air Maroc called the achivement a “historic qualification”
“After the unprecedented success of the match between Morocco and Portugal, we are multiplying [the flights] by four, mobilizing nearly 30 flights by aircraft widebody aircraft in just 24 hours, ” the airline’s CEO, Abdelhamid Addou, said.
To prevent the Royal Air Maroc website crashing due to high demand, passengers also have the option to book their flights to Qatar via the airline’s call centres, offices and through Moroccan travel agencies.
Supporters will be able to benefit from subsidized, fixed-price round-trip fares of 5,000 Moroccan Dirham ($473).
“With our mission of public service and the aim of promoting Morocco and supporting our national team, Royal Air Maroc will not skimp on technical and human resources. We are all behind the Atlas Lions,” Addou added.
Fans had earlier complained of overcrowding at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport ahead of the Portugal clash.
