Qantas has been named the safest airline for 2020.

AirlineRatings.com, a safety and product rating website, has named Qantas as the safest airline for 2020.

The Australian flag carrier has held this accolade for seven years in a row.

The website monitors hundreds of airlines, measuring airline safety on audits by industry bodies, crash and serious incident records, safety initiatives and fleet age.

“Qantas has been the lead airline in virtually every major operational safety advancement over the past 60 years and has not had a fatality in the pure-jet era,” says Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of the Australian-based website.

Seven of the top 10 airlines are based in East Asia or Oceania.

The highest European-based airline was Virgin Atlantic, sitting at number 12.
