Scorpions on a Plane: Woman stung on Air Transat flight | Secret Flying

A woman on an Air Transat flight from Toronto to Calgary was stung by a scorpion in mid-flight.

Air Transat has called an incident where a woman was stung by a scorpion on one of its flights “an extremely rare situation.”

Flight TS823 from Toronto to Calgary was 1-hour from its destination when student Quin Maltais felt a “piercing pain” on her lower back.

Maltais asked a flight attendant to assist her in finding what caused the sudden pain.

It was then they noticed the arachnid in the fold toward the back of her chair.

Maltais was tended to by paramedics once the plane made it to the gate.

“I had a full-fledged panic attack … paramedics had to kind of keep me strapped to a heart monitor for a while cause I was just unable to calm down,” she said.

After all passengers disembarked, airport authorities boarded the plane and removed the scorpion.

In a statement, Air Transat said: “Although this is an extremely rare situation, it can unfortunately occur.”

The airline could not confirm how the scorpion managed to get onto the aircraft.
