Singapore Airlines opens new flagship lounge at Changi Airport after $37m makeover | Secret Flying

Revamped SilverKris and Krisflyer Gold lounges are now open.

Singapore Airlines has opened new-look lounges at Changi Airport Terminal 3 following a $37 million upgrade, offering private day rooms, showers, cooking stations and cocktail bars overlooking the runway.

The new lounges are together 30% larger, seating 1,150 passengers over 6,100 square meters.

“The SilverKris and Krisflyer Gold lounges in Terminal 3 have 30% more seats and space than previously and can accommodate about 1,150 passengers in total,” Singapore Airlines said in a statement on Monday, a day before the re-opening.

The SilverKris Lounge is open exclusively for business class, first class and PPS club members.

With the lounge divided into three wings, The Private Room is reserved for only 78 Suites and First class passengers. This area features day rooms to rest in and a fine-dining restaurant.

The First Class section is open to Suites and First class passengers as well as Solitaire PPS Club members. This lounge also comes with day rooms to rest up, along with a live buffet station and ample seating.

To become a member of the exclusive Solitaire PPS Club, you will need to earn 50,000 PPS Value within your PPS Club membership year.

The SilverKris Business Lounge, accessible to passengers in that class of service and PPS Club members, includes a rest area with 14 lounge chairs in semi-enclosed pods, shower suits, and a massive buffet dining room that seats up to 200 people.

The nearby KrisFlyer Gold lounge is Singapore Airlines’ dedicated lounge for KrisFlyer Gold Elite and other Star Alliance Gold status holders.

This area is now double its previous size and featuring contemporary design, has an expanded dining area, new shower facilities and unlike the premiere lounges, a view of the runway for those who enjoy watching the takeoffs and landings.

Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Airlines, said: “Extensive customer engagement and research have gone into the design of the new SilverKris and KrisFlyer Gold lounges. Customers will enjoy thoughtfully curated product offerings and experience the signature Singapore Airlines hospitality, all within a comfortable and restful environment, ensuring that they are refreshed and ready for their journey.

“Opening these lounges at this time signals our commitment to SIA’s premium brand and growth strategy. It reinforces our position as Changi Airport’s anchor airline, and reflects our confidence in Singapore’s future as a pre-eminent global air hub.”

Due to the pandemic, the facilities are reopening about a year later than originally scheduled.

Singapore Airlines flew only 457,000 passengers in the fiscal year to March 2021, a 98% slump compared to pre-pandemic numbers.

However, the situation is looking better now as Singapore has dropped mandatory quarantines and testing, which has helped resuscitate the aviation industry and brought Changi, regularly voted the world’s best airport, back to life.
