The US Department of Transportation on Thursday announced the creation of an in-flight sexual misconduct task force.

 

On Thursday, the Department of Transportation announced that it will create an in-flight sexual misconduct task force.

 

According to a press release, the group will “review current practices, protocols and requirements of U.S. airlines in responding to and reporting allegations of sexual misconduct by passengers on board aircraft.”

 

Members of the task force will be announced at a meeting set for January 16.

 

CNN reported that between 2014 and 2017, FBI investigations into in-flight sexual assaults have increased by 66%.

 

The FBI declared that sexual assaults conducted on flights are increasing “at an alarming rate.”

 

The US Department of Transportation said in a statement: “Recent reports of increased incidents of sexual assault and misconduct onboard aircraft have highlighted concerns regarding the response to such incidents.”

 

Last month marked the one-year anniversary of the #MeToo movement, which sparked a big shift in attitudes towards sexual misconduct.
