The US government shutdown has forced TSA employees to work without pay during one of the busiest travel times of the year.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents are working without pay during one of the busiest travel weeks due to the US government shutdown.

The shutdown, which began on Saturday, could last into the new year and has left hundreds of thousands of federal workers without their paychecks.

US President Donald Trump has vowed the government shutdown will continue until his demand for $5 billion to build a wall on the US-Mexico border is met.

On Christmas Eve the President tweeted: “I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security.”

It is estimated up to 52,000 TSA agents will not be paid as long as the shutdown is in place.

Several TSA employees told HuffPost on Monday they aren’t allowed to talk to the press about how they feel about their withheld pay.
