United Airlines pilot attacks airport parking gate.

A United Airlines pilot has been charged in a bizarre axe attack earlier this month in which he savaged a parking arm at a Denver International Airport employee parking lot.

In a video obtained by CBS, Kenneth Henderson Jones can be seen getting out of his car with a full-sized axe, and striking the parking arm at the exit gate 23 times, until it is eventually knocked off its base.

Not long after, Jones scuffles at length with an airport employee who saw what happened and tried to take the axe away from him.

The 63-year-old pilot only surrenders the axe after a second Denver International Airport employee intervenes and helps wrestle it away.

He was subsequently arrested in a nearby field and later released.

Adams County authorities have now charged Jones with misdemeanour criminal mischief. He is scheduled to appear in court in Adams County Court on September 25 for an arraignment.

Per the police report, Jones claimed “he just hit his breaking point” while waiting for the parking gate to open.

He told deputies that he was doing other drivers a favour by “trying to get rid of issues for everyone waiting.”

According to United Airlines, the Boeing 757 and 767 pilot was “removed from the schedule and is on leave while United conducts an internal investigation.”
