Flight to Europe diverted after meal choice fury.

A United Airlines flight from Houston to Amsterdam experienced an unexpected diversion to Chicago due to an unruly passenger in the business class section.

According to reports, around two hours into the flight, a male passenger became upset that his preferred in-flight meal was no longer available.

Aviation watcher XJonNYC shared internal United communications on Twitter stating that there was a “disruptive [passenger] on board”.

The user also tweeted that the passenger “was noted to be intoxicated as well, but meal choice seems to have been an enragement point”.

Flight tracking website Flightradar24, showed that the plane circled Chicago’s O’Hare airport as it had to use up fuel, known as dumping fuel, or it would have been too heavy to land.

It is unclear if the unruly passenger was arrested upon arrival at O’Hare.

Long haul business class passengers on United Airlines flights are typically offered a full three-course meal in addition to more food throughout the flight.

Occasionally, business class passengers sat towards the back of the cabin miss out on a certain meal option as those sat ahead reserve them all.

In a statement, United said: “United flight 20 from George Bush Intercontinental Airport to Amsterdam diverted to O’Hare International Airport and landed safely following a passenger disturbance.

“Law enforcement met the aircraft at the gate and escorted the passenger off the plane. The aircraft then continued to Amsterdam.”

Due to the disruption, the flight landed in the Netherlands more than three hours late.
