American passenger tries to force his way onto a flight.
An American tourist found himself deported from Colombia after a dramatic incident at Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport. The unnamed man caused chaos after realising he had missed his flight. Frustrated and desperate, he attempted to gain access to the closed aircraft, leading to a series of alarming events.
According to the Colombian Air Workers Association, the situation unfolded on Friday when the passenger arrived late for his LATAM flight to Cartagena. Informed that he could no longer board the plane, the man reportedly became agitated and assaulted the airport staff. He managed to evade security and made his way down the jet bridge towards the aircraft, which had already closed its doors.
A video captured by a fellow traveller on the plane shows the enraged passenger kicking at the aircraft’s door, demanding to be let in. The footage reveals his agitation as he paces back and forth, shouting at the crew to “remain calm and breathe” while he continues to kick the door. At one point, he even hit an aircraft window, his frustration palpable.
As airport personnel and passengers watched in disbelief, the man kicked a nearby wall in anger. His actions escalated as he knelt on the ground, holding his passport and boarding pass, and pleaded to be allowed on the flight. “I want to get in, please,” he begged, banging on the window with his other hand.
Airport staff called for police assistance, and law enforcement eventually arrived to restrain the passenger. Despite being surrounded by police, airline personnel, and security staff, the man continued to resist, attacking an agent during the ordeal. He was subsequently taken to an immigration office and later deported from Colombia.
Daniel Gallo, president of the Colombian Air Workers Association, spoke out about the incident, highlighting the risks posed by disruptive passengers. “This individual not only threatened the safety of our staff but also disregarded established travel protocols,” Gallo stated. He urged the Colombian government to consider stricter measures against such behaviour, noting that incidents involving aggressive passengers are becoming increasingly common.
LATAM Airlines and the Colombian National Police have both declined to comment on the incident. However, Gallo’s call for tighter regulations has sparked discussions about the need for more severe consequences for passengers who endanger the safety and security of flights.
