US tourist is now banned for life from the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
An American tourist caused €25,000 worth of damage after throwing her electric scooter down Rome’s Spanish Steps.
The woman was accompanied with her male friend, who is also an American tourist.
A passer-by filmed Friday’s incident which went viral after being published by several Italian news sites.
The unnamed woman apparently got tired of pushing the electric scooter and decided to just throw it the rest of the way instead.
After reviewing the video, police said on Tuesday that the scooter had caused damage to the marble that would cost €25,000 to repair. The stone at the stairs had reportedly just been refurbished, according to Italian authorities.
Police eventually caught up with pair and they were fined €400 each.
The two are now banned from ever returning to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Spanish Steps serve as one of the most guarded tourist sites in the Italian capital, with police prohibiting people from sitting on them back in 2018.
