A Chinese theme park installed a large weighing scale to offer free entry to women if they weighed over 136 pounds (61.8 kg).

A theme park in northern China has been making headlines around the world after offering free entry to women if they weighed over 136 pounds (61.8 kg).

Tang Paradise park in the northern city of Xi’an installed a giant human weighing scale at the entrance of the grounds.

Female visitors tested whether they were eligible for a free ticket by sitting on the scale.

For those who weighed too little, tickets were sold for 90 yuan ($13 USD).

According to promoters, being “slightly overweight” was a beauty standard during the ancient dynasty (618-907 AD).

Yang Guifei, an eighth century consort and one of China’s “four great beauties” was described to have a plump and well-rounded body.

“We just wanted to let our female visitors know that they are as beautiful as Yang Guifei,” a spokesperson for the park told Beijing Times.
