An attempted security breach at Orlando International Airport led to reports of an active shooter.
A man is in custody after an attempted security breach at Orlando International Airport on Saturday afternoon.
37-year-old Ryan Scott Mills tried to get past the security checkpoint without being screened.
When TSA agents approached him, Mills reached into his pocket, prompting a bystander to shout “gun.”
Video posted online shows panic ensuing throughout the terminal.
Travellers, as well as TSA officers, ran for cover using plant pots and luggage to protect themselves from the ‘shooter.’
Amid the chaos, some passengers ran through security without being checked.
In the video, a pram is knocked over as people scrambled on top of one another.
Posting on Facebook, a witness said: “My parents were right there at the checkpoint, they had to run to the Seaworld store to be safe.
“As other people ran to other stores there, they allowed people in and immediately closed their doors to keep them safe.”
The Orlando Police Department released a statement online saying: “At 12:12 pm, a male attempted to enter the west checkpoint area of the airport. While attempting to arrest the subject, he reached into his pocket.
“Unknown persons at the screening area yelled the subject had a gun, which caused panic in the screening area.”
Police said Mr Mills was unarmed but will still likely face several charges for the security breach.
