Italian police have caught a gang of 12 professional thieves at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport.
A gang of professional thieves who targeted passengers at Rome’s Fiumicino airport has been caught by the airport’s police.
Authorities say the thieves managed to steal property worth more than €50,000 in a matter of hours.
Five were arrested with another seven under investigation.
They reportedly preyed mainly on Russian, Asian and Arab tourists.
According to reports, the gang stayed at foreign-run hotels where details of guests are not recorded.
This in itself is a violation of Rome’s anti-terrorism laws.
In a shocking video released by police, the thieves can be seen carrying out their brazen thefts.
In one incident, one man distracts a passenger waiting in line as his accomplice lifts the passenger’s bag from a luggage trolley.
In another, a thief can be seen opening a car door to steal valuables from inside the vehicle as two travellers load their cases into the boot.
