KLM has developed a prototype robot that can guide passengers through the airport while carrying their hand luggage.
Care-E, a bright-blue “self-driving trolley,” is being trialled by KLM as a personal airport assistant.
The robot will greet passengers after security.
Here, it scans the passenger’s boarding pass, carries their luggage (weighing less than 18 pounds), and follows them around the airport at up to 3 mph.
When you’re ready it will guide you to your departure gate.
The Care-E even knows if your flight has been moved to a different gate.
The robot will be rolled out at New York’s JFK and San Francisco International airports later this year.
Boet Kreiken, Executive Vice President Customer Experience at KLM said of the program: “We wanted to surprise our customers with an airport concept that was an extension of our friendly, smiling staff.”
