French police arrested a man on Monday following a high-speed chase on the runway at Lyon airport.

Police arrested a man who smashed his Mercedes through Lyon airport’s perimeter fence and reached the runway.

Reports suggest the driver first smashed through a security barrier at the Lyon-Bron business airport.

Then he drove 20km to Lyon–Saint-Exupéry Airport, speeding the wrong way along a motorway.

When the man reached Lyon’s main airport, he smashed through two glass doors at the terminal building before heading to the runway.

The video shows the suspect tried to flee on foot but was detained by police.

The man, aged 31 and believed to be French, was previously known to police only for traffic violations.

The silver Mercedes he used was stolen, an official said.

The incident led to the suspension of all flights in and out of Lyon–Saint-Exupéry Airport.
