An American Airlines passenger claims she was “assaulted” after she reclined her seat.

An American Airlines passenger has called out the carrier for failing to act when a man sat behind her allegedly kept punching her seat because she reclined it.

Wendi Williams was travelling from New Orleans to Charlotte, North Carolina when she decided to recline her seat.

The man reportedly asked Williams to return to an upright position for the meal service so he can have space to eat.

Williams obliged but then reclined the seat again after the unnamed man finished his meal.

In a video posted to social media, the man sat behind Williams can be seen repeatedly punching her seat.

After reporting the man to cabin crew, Williams said the flight attendant scolded her for videotaping the incident, and gave her a passenger disturbance notice.

“After much consideration, and exhausting every opportunity for American Airlines to do the right thing, I’ve decided to share my assault, from the passenger behind me, and the further threats, from an American Airlines flight attendant,” Ms Williams said.

“She offered him a complimentary cocktail!”

Williams claims American Airlines told her to contact the FBI for a resolution as the carrier was not willing to accept any culpability.

Social media was divided as to who was at fault.

“If I paid for the damn seat I’ll recline if I want to. His behavior would’ve gotten me arrested,” one user said.

“Wait! You can’t recline your seat? I call BS. Everyone should be able to recline to get a bit comfortable. Most normal people know this,” said another.

Many, however, accused Williams of “invading the space of the other passenger” and “ruining his experience”.
