Passengers restrain off-duty Delta flight attendant.

An unruly passenger on a Friday night Delta flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta has been identified as an off-duty flight attendant.

According to reports, the off-duty employee attacked the on-shift flight attendants and threatened to “take the plane down” as he attempted to open the door mid-flight.

He also reportedly got on the intercom system and advised passengers to prepare to put on their oxygen masks.

In a video posted online, many people can be seen scuffling in the dark near the front of the plane.

“This is the captain speaking. We’d like all strong males to the front of the aircraft to handle a problem passenger,” a voice is heard on the intercom.

The man, who appears to be wearing an orange life jacket, is then dragged to the ground and pinned down before the flight was diverted to Oklahoma City.

A spokesperson for Delta Air Lines said: “Thanks to the crew and passengers of Delta Flight 1730 who assisted in detaining an unruly passenger as the flight diverted to Oklahoma City (OKC).

“The aircraft landed without incident and the passenger was removed by law enforcement. We apologize to our customers for the delay and any additional inconvenience this caused.”

Upon landing in Oklahoma, the man was taken into custody and transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are investigating the incident.
