A Virgin Australia flight from Melbourne to Perth was diverted last night to Adelaide after a female passenger threatened to kill everyone on board.

A Virgin Australia flight was diverted to Adelaide after a passenger began “yelling death threats” during a red-eye flight from Melbourne to Perth.

Flight VA697 took off from Melbourne at 9.39pm when approximately 90 minutes into the flight, a female passenger reportedly began shouting: “Get me off this f*****g plane, don’t f*****g come near me, I can’t breathe.”

The woman allegedly threatened to kill people if they did not stop the plane.

The captain elected to divert the Boeing 737 to Adelaide, landing just after midnight local time.

Australian Federal Police stationed at Adelaide Airport boarded the plane and escorted the female passenger away.

A Virgin Australia spokesperson said: “The safety of our guests and crew is always our number one priority.”

As a result of a disruptive passenger on-board Virgin Australia flight VA697 from Melbourne to Perth, the Captain made the decision to divert to Adelaide and the passenger was removed from the aircraft by the Australian Federal Police.”

The aircraft has since landed in Perth this morning and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused guests.”
