Woman who was ‘sandwiched’ between passengers on flight gets compensation.

A woman who found herself “sandwiched” between two overweight passengers on a recent American Airlines flight has received compensation from the carrier, sparking a debate online.

Sydney Watson, an Australian-American, shared her ordeal with her Twitter followers during a three-hour flight, where she claimed she was “wedged between two obese people.”

She wrote: “This is absolutely not acceptable or okay. If fat people want to be fat, fine.

“But it is something else entirely when I’m stuck between you, with your arm rolls on my body, for three hours. If you need a seat belt extender, you are too fat to be on a plane.”

Watson continued her rant by declaring she didn’t “care” if her statement “is mean.”

“My entire body is currently being touched against my wishes. I can’t even put the arm rests down on either side because there’s no fking room,” she continued.

“I’m sick of acting like fatness to this extent is normal. Let me assure you, it is not.”

After tagging American Airlines in her tweet, the carrier responded reminding her that their passengers “come in all shapes and sizes.”

American wrote: “Our passengers come in all different shapes and sizes. We’re sorry you were uncomfortable on your flight.”

The airline said it offers “a variety of seat sizes and styles, so [its] customers can select what works best for them”.

“As a gesture of goodwill, I have issued you a $150 Trip Credit which will arrive via a separate email,” American said.

Watson responded to the voucher, saying: “I’d rather take the $150 American Airlines offered me as a refund and give it to someone who needs a PT or a gym membership.”

The incident sparked debate online with some calling Watson rude and inconsiderate, while others supported her.

One Twitter user responded to American Airlines, asking: “If your passengers come in all different shapes & sizes, why are your seats only wide enough for medium-sized people?”
