A British woman on an Emirates flight from Birmingham to Dubai was asked to leave the plane after a flight attendant overheard her complain about period pains.
A woman was asked to leave an Emirates flight after she complained to her boyfriend about period pains.
Beth Evans, 24, was boarding a flight from Birmingham to Dubai when she told Joshua Moran, 26, about cramp pains caused by her period.
According to reports, Evans told cabin crew that the pain was very mild ranking it at only “one out of ten” on a pain scale.
However, the Emirates crew did not want to take the risk of leaving Evans on board without a doctor present, and so removed her from the flight.
The couple claim they had to spend $880 to rebook their holiday flights.
“To be kicked off for period pains, it was madness,” Mr Moran told British tabloid newspaper, The Sun, after the incident.
“Beth was in tears and getting upset when the hostess was asking her questions. It’s embarrassing to have to explain about period pains when it’s being overheard.”
In a statement to HuffPost UK, Emirates said: “The passenger alerted the crew onboard that she was suffering from discomfort and pain and mentioned that she was feeling unwell.”
“The captain made the decision to request medical support and offload Ms Evans so she could access medical assistance as needed. The safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance and we would not have wanted to endanger Ms Evans by delaying medical help had she worsened during the seven hour flight to Dubai.
“We hope Ms Evans felt better soon and look forward to welcoming her onboard again soon.”
