A female passenger on a United Airlines flight was stung by a scorpion.

A United Airlines passenger was stung on a flight from San Francisco to Atlanta, sending her to the hospital.

Around mid-way through flight UA1554, the woman claims she felt a “stinging sensation” on her leg.

When she went to the toilet to investigate further, the scorpion fell out of her trousers and scuttled away.

According to reports, the flight attendants were able to trap the scorpion and place it in a United Airlines box.

The crew consulted with a doctor on the ground, and the flight was met with medical personnel upon landing.

“After learning that one of our customers on flight 1554 from San Francisco to Atlanta was stung during flight, our crew responded immediately and consulted with a MedLink physician on the ground who provided medical guidance,” the airline said in a statement.

All scorpions have a venomous sting, but the vast majority of the species do not represent a serious threat to humans, and in most cases, healthy adults do not need any medical treatment after being stung.

Only about 25 species are known to have venom capable of killing a human.
