Bombardier unveils its newest private jet that will fly at supersonic speeds.

Canadian business jet manufacturer Bombardier has introduced the “world’s fastest” plane, hitting supersonic speeds during tests.

The Global 8000 aircraft, which Bombardier says will be “the world’s fastest and longest-range purpose-built business jet”, will have a long range of 8,000 nautical miles and a top speed of Mach 0.94.

The aircraft is expected to be the fastest civil aircraft since the Concorde.

“The Global 8000 leverages the outstanding attributes of the Global 7500 aircraft, providing our customers with a flagship aircraft of a new era,” said Éric Martel, Bombardier’s president and CEO, during a press event at the annual EBACE business-aviation conference in Geneva.

The news comes after a Global 7500 test vehicle broke the sound barrier during a demonstration flight last May, achieving speeds of more than Mach 1.015.

The new 8000 will have modified GE Passport engines to extend speed and range found on the 7500 plane.

“The 8000 was supposed to be a zone smaller,” Mark Masluch, Bombardier’s senior director of communications, told Robb Report. “But we realized that we didn’t want to offer something that was a compromise. We drew a line in the sand for ourselves with the range, speed and other features.”

The company assured that current Global 7500 owners would be able to “retrofit” their aircraft to obtain the same speed and range as the Global 8000.

The Global 8000 has a base price of $78 million and is expected to enter service in 2025.
