The Icelandic airline founded from the bankruptcy of WOW air has relaunched as PLAY.
WOW air, which ceased operations earlier this year, has announced it will relaunch as PLAY.
In a press conference held in Reykjavik, PLAY’s CEO, Arnar Már Magnússon, said the colour red was chosen to represent passion.
The airline said tickets will go on sale later this month, with operations within Europe beginning by the end of the year.
By spring 2020, PLAY aims to begin flights to the US.
The carrier will first use the Airbus A320, as the short- to medium-range aircraft can fly to all of the airline’s initially planned destinations.
To celebrate the launch of PLAY, the airline will be giving away 1,000 tickets for free – although it is not yet clear how or when this will take place.
According to reports, the company has yet to obtain an air operating licence, but is in the final stages of the process.
