Seven people have died after a B-17 crashed at Bradley International Airport.

 

A Boeing B-17 plane crashed at the end of Runway 6 at Bradley International Airport while trying to land, killing seven onboard.

 

The World War II bomber plane ran into trouble just minutes after it took off at 9:45AM on Wednesday.

 

As the pilot tried to land the plane, the B-17 crashed into a de-icing building and burst into flames on impact.

 

Thirteen people were onboard the plane.

 

According to reports, six people were transferred to a nearby hospital, where three were listed in critical condition.

 

The 74-year-old aircraft, owned by the Collings Foundation, was among several vintage planes that had been brought to the airport as part of a special show.

 

“We can confirm that there was an accident involving a Collings Foundation World War II aircraft this morning at Bradley Airport,” said airport spokeswoman Alisa Sisic.

 

“We have an active fire and rescue operation underway. The airport is closed. We will issue further updates as information becomes available.”

 

The airport was re-opened after three hours.
